Can no longer edit HTML of homepage header or page header

Hi. It was recommended that I bring this query over here since I use twentysixteen (a very slightly modified child version).

I’ve had no reason to change the header for my homepage or other pages/posts (the two headers are very similar but not identical) for many years. Obviously there have been many WP updates over that interval, though I have stayed with the Classic editor. Now I find that I can’t edit a key part of those headers, which is an html table of choices and info that I had manually coded.

I’ve spent several hours reading various discussions and experimenting, but while I can access the widgets on the home page to edit those (which I don’t need to do), I cannot select that html table nor find any other way to access it for either the homepage or pages/posts headers.

Any suggestions on how to solve this would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
