I want to start this by saying I love Cloudways and I think their customer support is fantastic. I’ve also never had an issue with any servers or sites while using the platform. This is not a dig.
Basically, upon enabling their Cloudflare add-on for one of my sites, I was charged their $5 fee, which in completely fine, no issues there! However, I deactivated it for an hour while testing differences within the site, and then re-enabled it (as if toggling it on and off).
I did this 4 times in the same day for one website while testing and was charged $20. So they charged me as if I had applied Cloudflare to 4 different sites, or used it for 4 months in total.
After speaking to their support, they said this is Cloudflares pricing structure and not their fault. I explained that surely there should be some notice when disabling/re-enabling about multiple charges… Again, this is Cloudflares structure and the charge to my account was correct.
I don’t know about you, and thankfully $20 isn’t a big deal, but I do feel unfairly treated and it’s left me feeling very uncomfortable.
For example, if I was paying for a cache plugin, I wouldn’t expect to be charged their monthly fee every time I deactivated and then reactivated the plugin…
This seems bizarre to me.
Anyway, hopefully this helps others if they’re considering testing a few things like me…
Cloudways is still great. This just has been very poorly implemented.
Cheers!
