Complete newbie to WordPress so my apologies in advance.

Long story short, boiled down to the bare minimum.

1) How does one ( if even possible ) gain access to wordpress and actually pre build a website on there, without having to be forced to buy a domain beforehand.

( I understand free and paid plugins may play a role but I swore this can’t be the case )

2) My objective is to pre build a website using the supposedly “100’s of free templates”

and only pay when I finished the customization of the site.

3) I’m finding it quite frustrating because at first glance, the website builder Wix seems to have more access to free templates than WordPress which I keep reading is not the case but for whatever reason I’m only gaining access to less than 20 wordpress templates without having to be forced to purchase a domain.

4) When I do skip the domain option. I only seem to have access to less than 20 templates like I said, so I’m assuming I’m forced to pay in advance or is there a way around this.

Not totally sure why I find access to this simple problem so difficult hence myself on this forum as a last resort but anyways, any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

  1. Sounds like you are on WordPress.com which is different to WordPress the software. Read the sticky post at the top of this sub to understand the differences.

  2. And before you fork out for a wp.com subscription, have a read through using [wordpress.org]) software.
You’ll then be able to host locally and then upload to a server/ domain when ready.
