Yes, I know most people on here wouldn’t touch either of these hosts with a 10 foot pole. I had used HG for a number of years and just never moved on from them. I liked what I had seen in some reviews and we moved our website there.
This was done at the beginning of July. Some of you might know that HostGator was experiencing a lot of trouble at this time. Many of their websites were down for days on end, and had issues during their server migration. One of my other websites is still being affected by this.
So, our main website was experiencing issues on HG at the beginning of July. It would go down for several hours a day. After little help from HG and no end to the issue in sight, we moved it to Siteground.
Everything with that experience was mostly great…except, almost like a light switch, we’ve experienced monumentally less visitors, and have had exponentially less inquiries than normal. It’s hard for me to equate this to factors like competitors and things of that nature, because this shift really was quite sudden. We had just come off our best 8 months of consistent inquiries and bookings for our business, and then it just felt like crickets. We usually average about 120-170 inquiries a month, but the last couple months have been closer to 70.
Is there any remote possibility that this host change has resulted in less traffic for us? Anecdotally, I feel like nothing has changed…but it’s a pretty enormous coincidence that this all happened around the time we moved our website. Is there some kind of plugin with Siteground Security that is doing something funky? We often see visitors in clusters from random cities, despite me trying to use various plugins to try to mitigate things.
Tldr; Could our shift to Siteground have negatively impacted our SEO? Things seem fine anecdotally but we’ve seen some odd behavior, starting around the time we moved our website over. Any help is appreciated!
