Creating a blog post is super inconvenient with block editors:. Reminds of using internet in early 2000 era when it used to take forever to load a page. Keeping aside the great functionalities, do you agree that the experience of a user creating and publishing a blog post is a sort of a nightmare. This will drive people away from WordPress or use less of it?

  1. Maybe I’m missing something but I use Divi and it’s not that hard at all. If you think you have to build a custom divi layout for each individual blog post you have no idea how to use Divi.

  2. Write in a plain text editor or MS Word and copy and paste. It took me years to transition to Gutenberg because I thought it would be extra work but it’s not any different from the old editor. But maybe that’s because I’ve never written posts from the backend and have always copied from elsewhere and posted into WP.

  3. I have one client that has a beer / travel website. It’s basically like a beer journal to catalogue all the beers and locations. A little bit like Untappd (which is integrated) but a lot more personal to him with pics, links, videos, interactive maps, shout outs, etc.

Well… he is often uploading a new beer or location when he is drunk. 🥴😁

Takes usability testing to new heights. 😆

But essentially he is trying to make a blog post on his phone, using a limited amount of his brain. To solve this I created a custom post type that is easy to access and very straightforward — no clicking into different areas, adjusting settings, etc. It is all just step by step with a submit button. Easy peasy.

  4. I don’t see why the block editor would drive people away. I will admit that I was not an early adopter but it is a very powerful tool for sure, and allows anyone with even a small amount of technical knowledge to create layouts that weren’t possible before without some clunky page builder plugin.

If it takes forever to load, that is a separate issue. I’ve had had sites load it slowly but most load it very quickly. I would look at what plugins could be removed, whether it’s because they are no longer useful or because their functionality could be bundled with another.

Spend time with it and really explore. Setup some patterns or view some that are available out of the box. If you accept it instead of resist it, you might find that you like it.

  5. I don’t see it as a nightmare, as such.

What I don’t particularly like, is each paragraph is created as a new block (or certainly seems to be)… Which can make for some *interesting* experiences at times…

  6. I hate the damned thing and always will. It’s an accessibility nightmare. Yes, WordPress, or at least [Wordpress.com](http://Wordpress.com) has created Hotkey commands to work with it, but they are clunky at best in My opinion. I about lost my mind when I recently discovered that they now forced that garbage in the comment section as well. I plan on still writing and posting on a WordPress Blog, but good Gods, I struggle a lot!
