Critical Error after updating to latest version of WP

[ad_1]

I suck at WordPress but managed to cobble a site together that’s held up fine for over two years now. I did a dumb thing and updated to 6.1.1 and also updated the PHP version from 7.2 to 8.0 after months of ignoring the complaints on my dashboard, without checking the status of the site between updates. Thus I’m not sure which update triggered the error.

I’ve read the [wpbeginner.com article about troubleshooting critical errors]), but I am afraid to deactivate/reactivate the plugin that seems to be at fault (Elementor) because I’ve customized the bejeezus out of it – it’s been ages since I built the site, and I could never remember how to replicate everything I’ve done if settings get reset.

Hoping this makes sense to someone and that it’s an easy fix. Thanks so much in advance, and let me know what other information would be helpful to provide.

  1. Your PHP is out of date. Update it via your hosting control panel and the site should then work.
