Current best way to go from Elementor to stock-as-possible Gutenberg?

[ad_1]

I’ve been using Elementor since 2016 or so, and I build most sites with it. The drama around Gutenberg’s initial rollout also left a bad taste in my mouth.

But it’s 8 years later, and I’m now using Gutenberg for a big government site. It’s good! But it’s a very different approach from the purely visual Elementor builder experience.

I’d like to try rebuilding my personal site with stock WordPress as much as possible. Here’s what I know I’ll need:

* The ability to add custom blocks
* The ability to style blocks (easy enough in the customizer for consistent classes, but I’d like to be able to customize elements of a block right in the editor if possible)
* The ability to edit templates for each post type based on certain criteria (ie, sometimes a child page uses a different parent than a specific parent, templates change by post category, etc.)
* Add Adobe Fonts

My plan is to rebuild the site with the following approach:

1. On staging, rebuild the post type templates
2. Rebuild each unique Elementor row/pattern as a Gutenberg pattern/block to create a design system I can easily copy/paste
3. Rebuild each page using the block/pattern library

I’d also like to be able to do everything from the dashboard (as opposed to SFTP), if possible, so that it’s more in line with what my client experience will be after I hand over a site. (Clients hate SFTP lol.)

What are your recommendations for achieving this with the minimum number of performance-affecting plugins? I’m thinking I’ll need ACF and WP Code, but is there a lightweight way to manage custom blocks/patterns? What are the current recommended plugins to achieve this as close to native as possible?

Thanks!

  1. Just use something like Kadence Blocks or one of their competitors.

    I used to use Elementor too, absolute dogshit.

    Kadence has unlimited licenses under their most basic plan, which is one of the reasons I use it.

  2. Im using full site editor or block theme for the first time called Spectra + Spectra one. Im really liking it so far but lets see when i have to start creating bigger “logic” components
