custom referral link possible?

I have watched some tutorials regarding google analytics and tag manager. I only find videos about tracking existing links on the website. I basically want a custom link to be trackable. This is for an advertisement service, so I can see how many are visiting my website through this advertisement link. Is this possible with tag manager?

If it doesn’t work with GA or tag manager, does anyone know any free plugins for this?
