Dealing with Clients …

[ad_1]

I know this isn’t a WordPress specific question, but you guys are super helpful, I am building the site on WordPress, and the post keeps getting rejected on the r/web_design sub, o here goes …

How do you guys deal with clients (or bosses) that make bad decisions on a site you’re designing for them? They wanted fresh, vibrant ideas, which I definitely presented them, but they keep wanting to strip most of them off and make the site look like it was built back in 2000.

In my case, the most vocal people in the “committee” are recommending things like:

* using photos that are poorly taken, of bad quality, or have no tonal connectivity whatsoever
* vetoing any interesting elements or features on the site, making it look and feel flat and boring, essentially reverting it to the 10 year old site they currently have
* not wanting any scrolling on the pages. is that a thing in 2022?
* etc.

I’m feeling a bit frustrated, as all the beautiful elements and elegance I had on the site I originally designed for them are slowly being stripped off by a committee, one specific person in particular; I don’t doubt that at the next meeting they going to ask me to add in some gifs and an “under construction” image on the home page.

How do you guys handle these types of challenges?

  1. Find a middle ground and solve it that way.
    Or in the case of crap photos/materials/ideas tell them that may work (eg – agreement), but won’t fit the professional look/vision or whatever (eg – explain why their way is dumb) and should be replaced at a later date. And that if they want to save money they should provide the right materials (eg – the convincing reasoning) so you don’t have to do double work (and thus bill more).

    Plenty of ways to be professional and sound like an expert while silently calling customers an idiot 🤣😉
    Just be nice and professional about it.
