Did a WordPress update delete my staging site?

I was just working on my Staging site yesterday and now when I try to switch I get this screen on my old non-staging site and it won’t switch. Putting in the URL gives me ‘New WordPress Site Coming soon’ screen. No back ups yet (just learned that that was a thing), hours of work disappeared , assignment is due Saturday. Is all my work gone forever? What can I do?
