Directory Website

[ad_1]

I have recently set up a WordPress directory website for contractors using the GeoDirectory plugin. This website is going to get image heavy very quickly. I had the upload image setting set a 2MB but quickly learned a ton of photos taken with cell phones are larger than that so I bumped it up to 5 MB limit for now with a limit of 5 photos per user.

Within the first 60 days I am expecting to have around 20,000 members add their business listings.

I am hosting on Cloudways Vultr server. What steps do I need to take to ensure I’m not having problems with my site crashing? What would you expect monthly hosting to cost for something like this with 20,000 sign ups. ***Note*** I am setting it up to where users who are searching for a contractor do not have to register or login. Only contractors listing their business will need to login/register.

I am not a programmer and do not have the cash for a custom coded solution of this magnitude at this point so really hoping to be able to make this work on WordPress. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

  1. You’re going to want to get the uploaded images compressed, as a 5mb images will slow down pad load speeds massively. There are tons of plugins they can do that, like Imagjfy, Smush, EWWW, etc.

In terms of server resources, I’d probably start with a 4gb shared CPU. The number of signups isn’t important – what matters is how many users are actively on the site at the same time.
