Distorted in color | WordPress.org

Hi @nikitashw,

Thank you for your message.

What version of the plugin were you using before the update?

Please send me the URLs of some images where you have color issues. I will check it.

Best,
Mateusz

I don’t remember which version of the plugin was before. But yesterday I uploaded different photos and everything was fine. Here is an example of one of yesterday’s photos

And today I updated the plugin and immediately noticed that new photos are distorted in colors. Here is an example of one of today’s photos

@nikitashw Thank you for sending the images. In fact, there is a problem with the image horoshiy-photographer-v-tashkente-64.jpg. However, it has nothing to do with updating the plugin.

The problem with the colors is related to the PHP library installed on your server (this setting is available in the plugin settings, in the Advanced Settings section, in the Conversion method field). There are two possibilities – either the problem has been present all the time or something has been changed in the configuration of your server, more precisely in the area of PHP libraries. The problem doesn’t affect all images, so you might not have noticed it before.

When converting an image using the GD method, there is actually a problem with colors. Converting an image using the Imagick method has no problems. I’ve also converted the image using the Remote server method – then the colors are correct.

Here are the results of my tests:

  • the original image weighs 95 kB
  • the image converted to the WebP format using the GD method weighs 25 kB and has distorted colors
  • the image converted to the WebP format using the Imagick method weighs 35 kB and has the correct colors
  • the image converted to the WebP format using the Remote server method weighs 26 KB and has the correct colors
  • the image converted to the AVIF format using the Remote server method weighs 14 KB and has the correct colors

You can see the converted images here. I would like you to be aware that I have no influence on the libraries installed on your server. I checked the various configurations for you and next to the color quality information I also included the file weight information because it is important. All images were converted using the Optimal strategy in the plugin settings.

I’m so ashamed! I just checked again and realized what’s wrong. I accidentally exported all the new images to Adobe RGB instead of SRGB.
I’m sorry I rushed to you without checking it out.

@nikitashw Please run the image conversion again in the plugin settings, with the “Force the conversion of all images again” option checked.
