So I just finished a course in web dev and we had a client for a project. We used WordPress and the build was great. In the process of building I would notice little things here and there that were out of place or had some edited styling to the original that were not done by me. I’m the only one who had access at this point. As time is going on I fix these blips and everything is back to normal but then I go back a few days later and new things are now out of whack. Now the client has access but I have an activity log and they don’t even log in, so it can’t be them. The site has all basic security and a bit above. What’s going on here? Why do styles and layouts keep changing?

Are you modifying theme files and not working with a child theme?
If yes it could be the theme update.
No. You have one of the following things:
1) plugin or theme auto updates
2) caching on your machine which does not reflect the accurate state of the site and so you are seeing “temporary updates” that aren’t stored
3) you are viewing the site in preview mode without updating
4) your CSS or javascript is loading different when you are logged in or not
5) your admin panel loads css or javascript and you look at the website differently without being logged in
…. Or another 50 possibilities.
There are faux cron jobs, updates, etc.
If these are major bugs, you need to debug them.

Also, you need to flush the cache and test in incognito mode every time you make a change. Also refreshing with shift ctrl + r (on windows) or the equivalent on Mac will do a full refresh.
Honestly though, it could be one of a hundred other things. That’s what devs get paid for.
