Do I need to keep WordPress installation on my old domain when I move to a new one?

[ad_1]

Let say I was born Maria Lopez and I got married and now I am Maria Horvat.

For many years I had [marialopez.com]) , when I was discussing to my now hubby….I registered [mariahorvat.com]) . There was nothing in the new domain.

Right now everything is in the lopez domain. I am going to move to horvat domain.

I created the same e-mails ([[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) \–> [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])).

I have both marialopez and mariahorvat in all social media accounts.

Yes I know how to transfer for domains, but when people go to the lopez domain…

Obviously marialopez .com / about will now be mariahorvat .com and so forth.

I can redirect all the lopez pages to horvat pages.

If I keep WP in lopez , I’ll have TWO WP core/plugins/theme to update/maintain.

What is better, automatically redirect lopez to horvat or just put a “I have moved to horvat” message?

I haven’t moved things yet.

  1. 1. you will need to keep both domains but you don’t need hosting on the older domain
    2. set the older domain to be automatically forwarded to the new domain. this can be done at the domain registrar level
    3. as regards email, you can setup a catchall forwarding email from your older domain to an account on the newer domain
