Do WordPress websites require a wholesale rebuild at some point

Do WordPress websites require a wholesale rebuild at some point.

I work for a small firm (6 people and no dedicated marketing or IT manager), and we had a website built on WordPress 8 years ago which we have been using since then. For updates or anything more technical we tend to go back to the company that built it to update the themes, widgets, code etc. At the time WordPress was recommended and has served us well.

We are planning a complete graphical overhaul of the site in the not too distant future and wondered if that would require a complete, rebuild from the ground up (much of the content would remain). Would best practice be to completely strip and start again or would it be more appriopriate to keep working with what we have?

Should we be sticking with WordPress? Or has the landscape changed and we should be considering alternatives as well?

Opinions from those more enlightened than I would be muchly apppreciated.
