I am curious to find out, if people use any sort of project management tool when it comes to projects that have advanced functionality and are not 5 page brochure type websites.
The reason why I am so reluctant to do so. That over a 25 year Career in bot Private and public sector. The People that focus on Project Plans, tend to be those, where the Project Plan becomes the Project.
They will spend every minute, updating, adjusting, making changes, assigning dependencies.
But at the end of the day, have nothing to show for and nothing gets done.
When you are by yourself, and if you play those games. It won’t be long before you starve.
I do see the Benefit of writing down things you need to set up and accomplish, but when it becomes too formal. You lose focus.
What do you think ?

Yes definitely. There are too many details in a modern web project to hold it all in your head. Plus, it creates accountability.
Maybe not as a big a deal if you’re a one person shop but on a team doing big projects it’s a must.
I have used Asana for both my freelance and agency work. Can get as high level or granular as you like. You can also develop a template of all of the steps in your process, so that you can quickly roll out a new project and fill in the details.
For a single person or small teams, Trello could work. If not, more complex project management tools are a must.
