do you use cloudflare?

[ad_1]

Recently started my site and I have seen a lot of recommendations about getting cloudflare for dns and cdn and security purposes. But also have read that it could slow your site down, deny legit users and they have been hacked before.

I’m pretty much a newbie. I just know i dont want to get hacked. I’m not sure if cloudflare would be a good idea or if it would open up more vulnerabilities since I dont really know what I’m doing that well.

Right now for security i just have word fence and 2fa for wordpress.

would you recommend someone with a new site use cloudflare?

  1. My hosting is good enough that I don’t have to rely on external nonsense like Cloudflare.

  2. It‘s very useful if you intend to have visitors across the globe.

If it‘s just for a local business (ie. plumber) might not bother at all.

  3. Cloudflare is secure, and free (for the basic service). Many sites will not see much benefit, but some will, and there’s no real risk to using it. So if you’re confident in making the DNS changes necessary to do so then go ahead and do it.

  4. since i had cloudfalre i no longer worries about brute force nor ddos attack even scraping

  5. I have gone back and forth with it. All my work is for local groups, so no advantage to the global distribution. My work isn’t really big enough to attract DDOS and the like so no security advantage to me. So far, native WordPress security enhanced by Wordfence plug in has kept a lot of malicious people out. Makes things more complicated when you have dynamic pages when you are selling something.

For me, CF was just an extra layer with no advantage, an no faster maybe even slightly slower. I can imagine there is a different situation if you want a presence on more than one continent.
