Does a redirecting WordPress domain need additional SSL if it is registered with an external provider (NameCheap)?

I own multiple domains, which all redirect to my main domain (my WordPress site). I purchased most of these domains through WordPress.com, so I assume they all have SSL included.

But one of my domains was purchased on NameCheap, and I connected it to my WordPress site (not to be confused with “transferred”). It shows up in my list of domains in my WordPress.com account as “registered with an external provider”.

Do I need to add SSL to this domain on the NameCheap side of things? Or is that not needed, since it’s now connected to my WordPress site, and redirects to my main domain?

  1. SSL is installed on the web server, not the domain registry.

In Namecheap, you need to configure your hosting to accept traffic for your additional domains, and setup the redirects so they all point to the primary site.
