  1. I used BBPress for about 6 years.

First off all building up a new forum is hard and slow work. Forums in general are a dying breed due to social networks.

BBPress itself is neglected and only gets maintained enough to ensure ongoing compatibility with the latest version of WordPress. There have been times where a new update has become available and THE ONLY update to the entire plugin is changing the WordPress version number in the compatibility notice.

You’ll also find you need another dozen or more plugins to get most typical functionality that comes standard with any other forum software. The only bonus is the seamless integration with WordPress users.

I removed it and converted my site to allow users to create their own blog posts with comments enabled and got better engagement almost immediately but this does not suit many sites.
