I got a digital download site that I want to sell stuff. But 99% of the stuff is free to download. Would it better easier to just create custom fields for the 3 or 5 fields that I need? Instead of using woocommerce which is super advance and kinda bloat.
The fields I need is download link, type of items, and some additional info. I think woo has all these fields in their system.
Or maybe I should just separate the free and paid with acf and woo instead?
Also I am not sure how woocomerce or acf impacts site speed when I have over 20,000 products.

ACF will be easier to setup, but how are you processing payments with it? Wooconmerce does that out of the box
Also, checkout Easy Digital Downloads. Sounds like it will do what you want without much pain.
You may be able to use ACF and a form plugin like gravity forms or fluent forms for payment processing
