Does WordPress auto-display webp even if the source uploaded image is png or jpg?

[ad_1]

I’ve noticed a few visitors to my site mention they were getting served webp even though I uploaded pngs. Is it their web browser messing with things or WordPress itself?

I really don’t want images being auto-converted to webp!

  1. plugins can do it.

or you can do it via server config, nginx or apache whatever you are using.

also another way is using serviceworker with jpg fallback.

  2. No. It’s likely a plugin or a feature your host offers.

Just curious, why? Unless it’s a lossy conversion where you can clearly see the difference in picture quality, I can’t think why would this be a bad thing.
