This might be a theme conflict. The plugin should work anywhere the theme supports widgets or shortcodes. (Some themes have separate sidebars for pages vs. posts… check your Widgets admin page to see if it has multiple sidebars.)
As for the shortcode… again shortcodes should generally work anywhere, so if it’s not working that may be something specific to your theme.
Yes, that seems accurate. I downloaded and installed Twenty Twenty-Two and it worked perfectly. Sorry, I should have thought about that before posting.
