Domain Accidentally Deleted

[ad_1]

How screwed am I?

I was working on a client’s WordPress.com site and was in the middle of transferring it to a self-hosted site on Siteground. It was within the 10 day domain expiration window, so I paid the 20 bucks to be able transfer it. Well, long story short, she got the payment emails and marked it as fraud plus included the comments the site should be deleted because it was being moved 😭.

I was working and all of sudden…refreshed to a your website’s been parked. After some digging and a whole bunch of panicking calls, figure out what she did.

Started a support comment, but man am
I freaking out. In all my years working on WordPress this was a first.

I have backups and could rebuild if I had too, but she is a bestselling author and her domain was branded.

The domain isn’t going anywhere. There is a grace period anyway.

Do this, and get the files and db set up whilst WP are transferring the domain/you’re changing the nameservers/DNS records

  2. be calm and work through the process with your client. as unfortunate as the situation is she made the errors. she should have shared the emails with you for confirmation.

  3. Not your fault and definitely charge from fixing this. Takes a special kind of stupid to think it’s fraud when you’ve hired a web developer and you see your domain has been renewed. Even if you can’t use a mouse you should be smart enough to ask the professional.
