Editing query

[ad_1]

Hey,

So I’m a marketing manager and we have external developers. We want to make little changes like colour changes to the theme and we have uploaded logo variations which we can’t change. Howcomes there is so much of WordPress on pages/theme that I can’t edit but clearly the developer can.

Am I missing something or has it all to be done through coding somewhere?

  1. Roles – You might be “Editor” and the dev is “Admin”.

This is normal as it puts changes that have the potential to break a site in the hands of developers.

  2. If the website has a custom theme (professionally made ones will have) then the styles etc are probably in the theme itself. You will need full access to the hosting to update the CSS/HTML code to implement the changes you need.

If the sites been built of a ‘page builder’ or pre made theme you might find some of these options in the themes settings pages but its not guaranteed.

Custom themes will keep the styling and theme details away from the content (which you can edit in WP) because this is the proper way to do it, if you think you will update these areas frequently ask the developers to update it so you can change the details from within WP itself. Advanced custom fields for example will let them build a ‘settings’ page which would let you tweak the settings but they will need to implement this feature so it will likely be costly vs asking them to update the details if its a one off thing.
