Elementor not loading if site url is different from wp url

I have wordpress installed in a subdirectory, but I don’t want that subdirectory showing up in the URL for everyone to see, so I have it removed from my site address. The site works fine this way, all except for Elementor. When I try to edit a page, it gets stuck endlessly loading, unless I change the setting back. Is there any way for it to work with the two addresses being different or am I going to have to move my entire wordpress installation? I’d really rather not.
