Embed video on WP – best way to do it? Youtube , Vimeo or else?

[ad_1]

Hi Guys!

I want to use video backgrounds on quite some of our contents on our WP page. They obviously load sower then the rest of the site, which is not good, but I guess that’s what it is…
My question is how can I optimize it?

What service should I use?

I tried Yotube, its faster but the quality is bad and has some issues when it comes to mobile devices.

Vimeo has good quality but slow.

I can also upload it to my hosting…. Im not sure if it would load faster then youtube or vimeo.

What can you recommend me to do?
Thanks in advance.

  1. YouTube or Vimeo typically. Video is gonna load slower. That’s why they typically have a place holder image, so they don’t tank your page speed scores.

  2. If a video is essential for the design (for example a website that opens with a hero video or header), I’ll always upload them myself and use the video tag. It’s easier to style and looks cleaner. If videos are used as content in blogposts for example, YouTube or Vimeo is my preferred way. It also depends on what the client would like to use.
To prevent any PageSpeed issues, I’ll enable WP Rocket and the LazyLoad for iframes and videos option.

  3. I’m trying to figure that out too. Now using Vimeo for a random video full screen on deidealeschool.be. Later going to convert it from customized links to a random video from a Vimeo channel. I never heard about bunny.net.
