I’m wanting to build an equipment rental website as a side business.
When I first look at websites like Weebly or Squarespace with plugins like bookable the monthly fees are just too expensive, for decent functionality £100+ per month.
So now I’m looking at wordpress and a one off payment for a plugin/theme that does rental management. What are generally considered the best plugins to do that?
I’m wanting to rent camera gear out, several cameras, several lenses and then accessories that can be bundled with certain lenses/cameras.
The website itself won’t be anything fancy and the amount of products will be around 30 to begin with.
Also can anyone explain the basics of how I’d host a wordpress website, average costs involved.

Why not use a plain e-commerce site (wordpress:woocomerce/Shopify) with subscription checkouts until you make it successful enough to justify those plugins or libraries?

Yes I’ve just been reading about this. So wordpress own WooCommerce, which looks like a great solution.
I’ve found a few themes that look great for rental websites.
My knowledge is starting from scratch though, so I have a few questions.
I buy my theme which is the overall look of the website, I can customise headers and fonts, colour and photos etc which is great. The theme also allows booking with a nice looking calender, and has rules for buffer days and collection etc and a good looking checkout.
But for the checkout do I need to pay for something else to allow payments? I’d be looking at PayPal/stripe/direct transfer. I know each of those takes a fee for processing the payment, but is that it?
