Experienced dev, new to WP. Questions about how this works

[ad_1]

Hi everyone,

I am an experienced dev but I work with web applications. I am putting together a small business site for my gf and bought a theme thinking it would save me time because I am very busy. I may have made some false assumptions about how this works however and maybe I could get some clarification on some things.

The theme example shows a fully formed page which is almost exactly what we want. However when I activate the theme in WP and go to the Customizer, everything is a blank slate. I was hoping to load the whole theme page example and take away what I didn’t want and edit the rest. The theme example shows things like a parallax Hero Image, and a bunch of custom things which I can definitely build myself but I was hoping to be able to just plug and play them into the site and make some edits. Is this not how it works? I added a nav menu in the Customizer and it is obviously using the theme’s styling, but I don’t see options to add most of the things the theme shows. [Here is the example theme site in case it matters])

Basically I am just looking to be able to plug in pre-made things to make the site look almost exactly like the example but doing that does not seem obvious to me. Am I wrong about how this is supposed to work or am I missing something? Otherwise I could just build the site myself.

Thanks in advance.
