Fear of e-commerce design.

[ad_1]

Im relatively new at web development and ive been putting together a portfolio over the last couple weeks. Im a bit afraid of doing any sort of e-commerce because it all seems to require expensive plug ins. Im not even really sure if a youtube tutorial is enough to learn them. Should I stick to basic stuff for now? Or am I just gimping myself?

  1. You can do a basic e-commerce site with pretty much any of the free plugins (Woo, Ecwid, et. al.) It’s adding *more* functionality that can cost more. Just price that into your build with the client. Learning e-commerce can be worth it since you can charge considerably more than a regular site. It’s a lot more work compared to a regular site i.e. testing and configuring the shop settings and entering all the product.

WooCommerce + [Stripe for WooCommerce]) is a free combo.

  3. WordPress: free

    Woocommerce: free

    Stripe: free

Hosting: can be purchased for a few $$ per month (e.g. SiteGround, Namecheap).
