With the GDPR we are user data responsible and, with so many cyberattacks, one way is to encrypt fields in the database. As for example, last month my data was stolen from my energy company and I already had some telephone calls lately to try to cheat on me.
I use Drupal to build sites also and there is easy to encrypt a field with Webform, Webform Encrypt and Encrypt. You get a checkbox in each field to encrypt it. Here in WordPress there is little to implement that and not easy. So, I request you please to implement it. I would get the payed version if it was offered and I think many other users would.
