Please check site logs, find there error text and provide here. Without seeing error it is hard to say what is goinf on there.

Many thanks for the quick response. I have installed a plugin for the debug log. I discovered that the error occurred together with another plugin that was installed to hide special categories in the frontend.
I could solve this problem by removing the plugin for hiding special categories and creating a code snippet that does the same. No more errors now.
