First Client for WordPress Website Maintenance – How Much Should I Charge?

[ad_1]

Hi everyone,

I’m excited to share that I have my first potential client who needs help with maintaining their existing WordPress website. This is a big step for me, and I want to make sure I’m setting a fair and reasonable rate.

Here are some details about the project:

  • Website Type: Existing WordPress site
  • Tasks: General maintenance, updates, security checks, and possibly some content management
  • Client Location: Prague (I’m based in the US EST)

For those who have experience with similar projects, what are your recommendations for setting rates? Should I charge hourly, by task, or offer a flat monthly fee? What are typical rates for WordPress maintenance services, especially for someone just starting out?

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

  1. Flat monthly fee (eg $50-150), but exclude the “content management” portion as that is vague and can change. Charge hourly for content changes.

  2. You can refer to experts like WPBeginner or Codeable. See what they are charging for maintenance service.

Not only it’ll give you the idea of pricing but it’ll also help you understand how you can define your services better and make them presentable to your client.

  3. I charge anywhere between $75 to $300 a month. It all depends on what services, perks, features, you plan to offer. Basically for me anyone with a service plan gets priority over those I charge hourly. And the higher paid plans offer discounts on development/task work.

  4. Hang on, are you based in US, and your client is based in Prague, Czech Republic?

If so, you might want to find out the going rates for it over there; services tend to be cheaper there.

As u/bluesix points out though – exclude “content management” – that is hourly. Always.

If it is Czech and you can speak Czech, you could offer copywriting too, and graphics if you can do that and they need that?

  5. Unless this is a big corp client Europeans will find those prices insane and you will not get it.

200 yearly for small business max. Yes auto update, with correct plugins installed it’s 200 for doing nothing.
