First Website: How Much to Charge?

[ad_1]

Hi everyone,

I’m studying web development at my university. My mom recently asked if I could create a website for her food catering small business (she cooks the food at home and delivers them to customers) and she is willing to pay me.

The problem is I have never done freelance development before so I have no idea how much to charge.

Can anyone provide insight?

  1. It’s your first site, and it’s for your mom, I wouldn’t be charging anything.

edit: maybe get her to cover the costs like hosting, theme, etc.

    edit: downvoted… alrighty then!

  2. Start small and build your portfolio of work.

Once you are comfortable start raising your prices. After you get some big accounts then you can start charging $5000 and up for your services.

It took me ten years to start charging $3500. After 15 years I started charging $5000 and up. I get about 2 to 3 new accounts monthly plus I also run a dedicated server and host all my clients’ WordPress sites for $49.99 a month.

The monthly recurring fees of about 300 clients is a nice cushion for taking summers off and slow times.

    Good luck

  3. “Mom, you gave me life, you brought me up and took care of me anytime I was sick, this website is the least I could do to repay that love”

  4. $12/hr with a $250 minimum.

Consider yourself lucky you have a project to learn on. Thousands of budding developers get stuck early on because they can’t figure out what to build.
