Free Lance Word Press Designer Need/Questions

[ad_1]

Hello all,

I am currently creating a website for my business and was wondering how hiring a freelance web designer would work? I am concern about security issues. Will I have to had over my current website to the designer and have them edit my page? I’m afraid of giving out my user and password. How is this normally done, and what do owners do to keep their information safe? Anything will help. Thank you in advance!

  1. First off, trust. Secondly, create an account for them and once the work is done, delete the account.

  2. Freelance and WordPress are each one word.

Set up a staging site. Let them work there. Since this is a new site, you can push staging up to live.

  3. >….what do owners do to keep their information safe?

I would dare to say that the safest approach to this topic (if you don’t know designers, don’t have any relationship with them, nor trust them) would be to give them access not to your production site, but to a clone or duplicate of your production site, preferably via staging. For example, we have that feature on our SiteGround hosting, or we use BlogVault SaaS.

Alternatively, you can simply clone your production site to a subdomain on your main domain (we use All in one WP migration plugin for that) and create new admin access for that site. Do not give them your real production site’s access data, as that would allow them to log in to your production site.

  4. Setup a staging site, create them a separate account from yours or the admin account, allow them to make edits to the staging site with their own account, once they’re done delete the account and if all is good move it over to production.
