Front-end dev, working with WordPress for the first time. Advice?

[ad_1]

Hey there! So, my friend has a Tattoo shop, and his website he made himself, it’s done quite poorly, bad styling, bad contrasts with fonts, not following responsive layout design, cluttered, disorganized. I want to remake it and do an overhaul for him. I can do this with HTML CSS and JS, or even using React or Next, (though that’s probably overkill).

He’s currently doing everything through and has made things with WordPress, and hosting on BlueHost.

Is there a way I could make a site out for him with HTML and CSS, and JS, and he can still use WordPress for his content management, of uploading pics, and changing / posting blog content etc? Any advice on this?

Not looking to spend a ton of time on it, more as a surprise nice thing to do during some free time for a friend.

Thanks for any help, hope you have a good day!

Then nope. Theme development takes learning.

Make a copy of the current (not-so-great) page(s). Save as draft, don’t publish (if you accidentally publish, you can unpublish). Fix them up in Elementor. Show it off – and when they like it, they can swap to those pages.

If you want to keep it an absolute secret, make a copy of his entire website and host it on your computer during development. Disconnect from the internet while you do this, to avoid their plugins doing stuff they shouldn’t on a dev site (e.g. WooCommerce Subscriptions invoicing someone). Pages can be exported/imported when they’re done.

Tiny learning curve, but really tiny because Elementor is easy. And responsive.

    Yup, that’s called “headless wordpress”.
