Getting 404 error after switching permalink from ?p=123 to /sample-post/

Here is a log of what I did setting up this website:

– installed WordPress
– installed Yoast SEO plugin
– created a dummy post with a slug “my-amazing-post”
– The post could be viewed at
– changed the permalink to /%postname%
– WordPress is generating all the links as expected
– when I click on my post it redirects to but NginX gives a 404 error.
