Gzip Compression not Functioning on my Website

[ad_1]

Hi everyone,

So I’m a noob to web development. I’m currently building a website (that is live now) but I have speed and page loading issues and intermittently throws out 503 pages to users when visiting, even on my WordPress dashboard sometimes when trying to do something it happens to me. I have WP Optimize (3.2.19) installed images have been compressed, I have pre load enabled, minify enabled and cache to regenerate every 7 days (30 days for minify cache). When I try to enable Gzip I receive the following message:

We successfully added Gzip compression settings into .htaccess file. However, the test file we fetched was not Gzip-compressed. Possible causes include that Apache (your webserver) is not configured to allow .htaccess files to take effect, or one of Apache modules – mod_filter or mod_deflate – is not active, or the webserver is configured to disallow Gzip compression. You should speak to your web hosting support to find how to enable it.

I spoke to my host and they advised that the deflate mod is enabled by default and that when they check on giftofspeed my site is showing as Gzip Enabled.

I troubleshooted and used Health Check & Troubleshooting (1.7.0) plug in to disable all plug ins without effecting my site on the front end as it is live. From here I enables WP Otimize to see if Gzip will work and still nothing.

I have checked my error logs and it seems to be the same two errors that are appearing for the 503 error and I am wondering are these linked to the Gzip not working:

AH01067: Failed to read FastCGI header, referer:

(104)Connection reset by peer: AH01075: Error dispatching request to : , referer:

I have Wrodpress installed on my domain. I have WordPress 6.3.1 with Astra theme 4.3.1. I can access my sites files via Plesk using PHP version 8.0.3.0 and it is run by FPM application served by Apache.

I have tried to swap to nginx too to resolve the issue, I even went back to an older version of PHP in case it was incompatable with any plug ins and still can’t fix the issue.

I have deactivated and deleted some plug ins such as Jetpack Booster which seemed to be incompatable with Elementor. I erased any reminents of these from my files and database hoping it might be faulty code interfering but I am now at a loss.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the issue or any ideas on what I can try next, I’d love to get the site up and working as soon as I can.

Thank you in advance I appreciate your time thus far for reading this long post I hope I am posting this in the right place.
