Just a note ahead, I am currently unemployed and looking for work, but struggling to prove experience and skills.
It’s exactly what is means. There a few known non-profits in my area and are in need of WordPress development. They only ask for about 5-10 hours per week.
Does doing volunteer work help you in anyway? The only thing I can think of is extra portfolio piece and flexing skills.
Ultimately I would drop the project since there are no ties to it, but keeping the mind and skills sharp with real world work seems a good option in between job searches, interviews, and earning small amount of unemployment benefits.
