We have some old sites using very old version of what was then called visual composer about version 5. The old versions are now showing as a security risk. The upgrade path appears to be WP bakery page builder which is a paid upgrade but promises lifetime updates. Is anyone ever had to upgrade an old version of visual composer, that came with a theme, and what were your experiences like?
If your experience was negative what problems did you run into? Did the upgrade not happen perfectly? Was WP Bakery support not helpful with your particular website integration?

I always found the easiest solution was to just rebuild the site without WP Bakery.
Yes. Don’t.
I use it on a bunch of client sites – they love it. Personally, I find it easier to use than Elementor.
V5 is ancient. Using any old version of any plugins is generally a security risk. Even Elementor has had a bad run lately – 2 vulnerability announcements last month if I’m not mistaken.
Always check the changelog: [https://kb.wpbakery.com/docs/preface/release-notes/])
Yes, I have worked on many WP Bakery sites. It’s a bit clunky, but if you don’t have time to rebuild then it can be a capable stopgap.
