My goal is to freelance full-time but there’s so much competition and I’m confused from where to start. It would be a huge help for an expert In this field to guide me to the right direction and give me tips or skills to separate me from a normal developer.   1. Going to the next level would probably require you to build your own theme, or at the very least, code in your own child theme. That includes learning PHP, Mysql, and the frontend languages.
