Help me troubleshoot my website

[ad_1]

Hello, I seemed to make a grave mistake. My WS was infected w casino ads so I installed Wordfence to purge viruses. The problem is, I chose a deep scan and it yielded false positive results. So I ended up deleting files I need for a theme to function. The good news now I see all bogus casino posts on my website (7k). The bad news my website doesn’t function and when I does all design elements are messed up. Is there any way to troubleshoot it? All content remains intact.

  1. Check if Wordfence security took the own backup before security scan? Check on your server if you had any previous backup? Check if you have history to restore any previous versions?

  2. I will be the bearer of bad news, but unless you have a backup pre-infection, your site will never be the same as it was. Check with your hosting company; you may have access to backups. Any hosting company worth its salt will include backups in your hosting plan. Using the backups you can either 1) simply restore the site, but maybe loose newer content 2) use the backup to cherry pick what’s missing.

Is your site updated very often?

  3. What theme were you using?

Do you have a list of all the files you deleted?

Did you hire a developer to create the site for you or dud you do it yourself? Your developer might have a backup of certain theme files if your hosting company doesn’t.
