Help migrating content from WP.com to WP.org

[ad_1]

I have a [Wordpress.com]) portfolio site, which I would now like to move over to [Wordpress.org]) site hosted on Bluehost.

I have already set up the .org site and installed a theme, and I’m working on rebuilding my site with a new design before I transfer my domain name from the .com account.

I don’t want to rebuild all the portfolio content from .com so I tried to Export site data as XML and import on .org but I keep getting an Error 524 that it has timed out. I’ve spoken to Bluehost tech support 3 times – they checked my php limits and max upload sizes, and even tried to upload it themselves but they say my Portfolio pages aren’t in the file? and asked me to get .com tech support to give me the Export file as a ZIP or TAR, which .com support told me they can’t do and that my portfolio projects are contained in the XML file they already gave me.

I wonder if anyone can help me figure this out? I was trying to avoid having to copy/paste all those portfolio projects over to the new site in Elementor, but at this point is that my easiest thing to do, since I’m reflowing all these pages with the new theme templates anyway? I’m basically rebuilding the site from scratch so I don’t need to preserve the layouts, I just wanted to make it easier to bring the content across into my new theme pages.

  1. Error 524 is Cloudflare related. Disable any plugin you have running that enables that or disable Cloudflare for your site temporarily to see if you can do the import.
