Help with getting started on wordpress

[ad_1]

Hey guys, I recently decided that I would like to create a website for my dad’s shop(simple presentation page, no e-commerce) with wordpress, to learn about it and maybe improve php, HTML, javascript and css skills as a CS student. I’ve installed it on my computer and now I’m a bit at a loss. I want to create it without paying any money for the themes and plugins, but when I scroll trough them I see a lot of premium versions.
My question is:
How should I start learning about wordpress? Maybe there is a good tutorial? Should I just choose very basic theme and with the power of code try to improve it? (right now not even sure where the code is written). Or am I at big disadvantage for not investing money on a theme?

Thanks for any kind of info.

  1. If you’re just starting out, there are plenty of well designed and developed themes from you can pick from. For example – [https://wordpress.org/themes/author/anlino/]). Depending on the features you’re after, you can either look at customizations with hooks and filters or well maintained and developed plugins.
