I have been away from the wordpress world for a few years and have been asked by a family member to help build their site. I am handy with this stuff, but still a beginner. Since this group seems helpful and very knowledgeable, thought I'd ask for input on how to spec a site that meets the following needs:
- Simple site with a Home page, About Us page and subscription tiers page. All other pages will mostly posts from a knowledgeable expert on a niche topic
- Users pay a monthly subscription to unlock these weekly posts that sit behind a login
- Basic flow – Site owner sends email to subscribers when a new post is live on the site. Users read snippet of the post in the email, then click through to access their paid content
- Site owner expects no more than 1,000-2,000 subscribers at any time and no more than 10 emails sent out per month.
That's pretty much it.
My prelim approach was:
- Use Blocksy (or a similar block-based theme) on WP
- Maybe (or maybe not?) use Elementor to make the build and management easier
- WooCommerce for payment processing
- WooCommerce Subscriptions for subscription management
- Mail Chimp (free) for email list management and list communication
- As for hosting, was thinking about Bluehost, but the hate online for them seems pretty strong. Simple options?
Would love some input from the group. This is a side project for my family member and the emphasis needs to be on easy to manage and troubleshoot.
I should mention the site currently lives on Wix but the site owner really dislikes the limited customization options and is open to start over with a WP site hosted elsewhere.
Thanks a bunch.
