Home page just… gone. Volunteering for non-profit who lost their home page

[ad_1]

As the title says, I volunteer with a US based non-profit. United Help Ukraine. Dot ORG address. They reported that, for some unknown reason, their homepage is gone. When you type in the normal web address it goes to a completely different page (although still one that is part of their website).

I went into admin, pages, and I do not see any Trash at all.

I am not sure why, but I can’t find a way to see edit history. When I go to Settings I do not see History or Simple whatever I thought would be there.

Would really appreciate all of your expert advice here. They’re a good organization doing good work.

Edit: temp fix went to Homepage settings changed to static and chose the About page. The original homepage still isn’t a selection in the drop-down, and I still can’t figure out how to see the history.

  1. Did someone possibly make the home page private on accident??

Go to Pages and quick edit. Under quick edit, check if the visibility is set to Private, or anything besides Published.

Also, check under Customization then go to Homepage Settings. Make sure the proper homepage is selected. Check under the Reading tab as well.

Another cause may be a caching plugin.

  2. Contact your hosting company and ask that they restore the website from backup. Hopefully you are paying for backup services.

  3. Go to your database and search for the table databasename-options and theck the front page url

  4. Hello, you will need to restore a backup from the hosting provider to get it back. Hopefully you are on daily snapshots.

  5. If it was previously set to be a static page, is there any chance it was deleted and then deleted again from Trash? What you’ve described sounds like that would fit. If that’s what happened then you’d need to either restore from a backup or recreate the page.

    Other options:
    1. the home page was previously set to “latest posts” – in this case, the solution is to set it back to this again.
    2. The website uses a page builder that has its own way to set up the home page (i.e. it doesn’t use default WordPress pages)… Or it had a page builder that has since been changed or deleted. In this case, you may need to restore whatever has changed in the page builder.

  6. If you are unable to recover it on your own, PM me and we can take this to email. My small digital marketing company builds and hosts websites and I can probably fix whatever happened, gratis. I’m traveling for the afternoon but can look at it this evening.

  7. > changed to static and chose the About page

What was it set to before you changed it? If not static then it should have been a regular index with a list of posts.

Also, this issue may be theme related. Zerif Pro was renamed to Zelle Pro and then discontinued by the developer. Theme code is probably broken with newer WordPress versions. Try switching to a different theme to see if the home page comes back.
