  1. Bro surf this subreddit you’ll find tons of posts related to this.

  2. You can’t expect to get into web development without learning how to code. You’re just setting yourself up for failure.

  3. Learn PHP first. There’s a lot to it but most of the logic of WordPress is powered by PHP. Once you’ve built a couple simple applications with PHP learn how to turn that info a plugin. With ChatGPT and Claude out there it will be so much easier to learn.

You could even ask them to give you a simple plugin and comment what each line of code is doing. Once you wrap your head around how it works, variables, functions, etc you can start creating something from scratch and if you run into any bugs or issues describe what’s happening and upload your code to the chatbot. It can help you debug and suggest solutions.

Then you get into the fun stuff like APIs, rest endpoints, and connectivity to create an entire application.

WordPress can be very powerful and it’s important to understand the basics before diving in. You should know and understand basic PHP concepts, CSS, and HTML if you want to be a decent WP developer.

If you’re not looking to code then Website Development will not be what you’re doing. Use a page builder and hack together what you are looking for. You’ll be limited by what they provide and eventually hit a wall where knowing the basics of coding is required to get the job done.
