how can i give other authors access to the backend of my site, if i don’t know the credentials?

[ad_1]

Two years ago I joined a local volunteer org in my neighborhood and eventually ended up managing their preexisting website. Over the years, a few people have had access, and to my knowledge the login info has never changed. The last time I successfully logged into WP with the username and password I know it was the same.

People came and went from the volunteer org, and now I need to share login information with new people. I have no idea what to do about the password. I don’t have access to the original email linked to the account. How can I get other people access to the site without having/knowing the credentials? Thanks in advance.

  1. Log in to the dashboard > Users and reset their passwords. This assumes you have an admin-level login.

  2. If WordPress.org, there are tutorials related to editing the database or using WP cli to get a new password. If WordPress.com, you’ll need to contact their support.

  3. What do you have access to? Do you have access to the database through an interface like PHPmyadmin? Do you have SSH access? Do you have FTP access? If not those things, do you have access to the web hosting company’s tech-support?

  4. It’s time to add yourself as an admin with an email you have access to.
