How complicated is it to switch from one builder to another?

Hello, I am hoping someone can help with might be a simple question. For context, I am entirely self-taught when it comes to WordPress and simple web development. My knowledge and experience fail me when it comes to more complex matters.

So, I help manage a website that was built in WordPress by another party, and it was designed with the Fusion Builder. I’m fairly comfortable with using Fusion Builder to design pages, and I am also familiar with Elementor. I am being informed by our hosting company (also the same people who designed the initial site before handing it over to me) that Fusion Builder is creating some issues due a recent upgrade and needs to be replaced. Since I am familiar with Elementor, that’s the suggested direction.

They are proposing this will cost our organization a few thousand dollars, since (they say) Fusion Builder “houses” all our blog posts and photos, and as a part of the transition they will have to transfer all the website data over.

Is this correct, or are we being fleeced? Put another way, could it just be a matter of activating Elementor and deactivating Fusion Builder. or is it more complicated than I am assuming?

Thank you in advance!

It doesn’t work that way. As a rule of thumb, page builders are generally not compatible with one another. You can create a staging site and see what happens after you switch.

Someone will have to recreate that content in the other builder. Generally, page builders should be used only for pages and templates, and not to create posts or custom posts.

If you have thousands of posts, you should have a template and separate the content from the design. Data can be stored for example in custom fields. Using templates will save you work in case of a switch.

If you have built thousands of posts using a page builder in a “non-templatized” way, then my condolences.
