I’ve been tinkering with wordpress since 2015. I have built so many websites for fun over the years and have always considered trying to find clients but I lack confidence and always worry I get asked to do stuff out of my reach.
But I see a lot of people over the years doing so with portfolios that i know i could achieve so l I should probably go for it.
I think my problem is I’m a perfectionist so I figure if I’m not 100% happy, why should I expect customers to be happy 🤣.
One of the things I don’t understand is how the handover process goes.
Do you host it for them?
Do you offer to look after it for them and do edits etc when they want it?
Do you run their email campaigns?
I can technically build a website using WordPress and builders and make it look nice, make it run fast and can figure out basic code, but I’ve never really explored beyond that.
I want to look into it. I have some friends who could really do with a nice website but I’d just like some pointers on how to go about making it happens.
Should I do some for free? Then that will help build my portfolio and hopefully my reviews and referrals..
Thanks..

Just advertise your services and you’ll need to get a good hosting services if you wanna provide hosting.
Word of mouth is always good as well
I built a site for a friend with 0 knowledge of WordPress and 3 years later, it’s turned into 21 sites hosted by me and monthly maintenance retainers

So what? How do you think you’ll learn new stuff? Pushing yourself over the limits is the only way. And it builds self-confidence.
“asked to do stuff out of my reach”
1. Transparency. If client asks for some uncommon features it’s absolutely fine to take time to find appropriate solution.
2. If you consider it like a “business” then you find someone who can execute more complicated tasks on project. you already have skills and knowledge to deliver a project even if you need to outsource some parts
