How do I add alt text that actually works to a WordPress website?

[ad_1]

Hello,

I haven't had much experience in using WordPress, but I'm looking into adding alt text to images on a site. I've tried adding the alt text through the Media page, but this doesn't make any changes happen on the actual website. What am I doing wrong? Apologies if this is very much a newbie question.

Could someone also explain how child themes work? I have been looking it up online, but I'm finding it rather confusing to understand. What is the difference between a child theme and a child page? Is the child theme what shows up on the actual website? Thank you so much everyone.

  1. If you’ve added the alt text under “Media” then that’s it. It works.
Share your URL if you want and a screenshot. Also, make sure to flush your cache if you have one.

  2. Some themes add images incorrectly (ie they don’t use the proper WP functions to display an image), so you will probably need to remove and read the image in the image for the alt text to appear. Make sure you flush your cache as well.

A child page is a page that live underneath a parent page. Similar concept as a submenu – its hierarchy.

A child theme is completely different. It is a subset of the parent theme, in which you can make customisations to a theme that aren’t lost when the parent theme updates.

  3. Add the alt text to the image in the post itself, and then it will show up.

Doing it to the media library adds it to the media, which generally adds it to new posts automatically, but if not then you have to add it to the post which is displaying to actual users.

Generally speaking, images are not in a single place. If you change the data on the image, it doesn’t automatically change on every use of that image in your website.
